Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 13” MacBook Pro, M1, 16GB RAM (2020)

This is one of the bests laptops I’ve ever owned. It’s fast, powerful, and the battery life is amazing. I’m not sure I’ll ever need to buy another laptop in some time.

  • Apple Magic Mouse

Something about all the gestures makes me feel like a wizard with special powers. I really like feeling like a wizard with special powers.

Development tools

  • Visual Studio Code

I’ve been using VS Code for years and I still love it. It’s fast, extensible, and has a great community. This IDE is the best combination of features and performance I’ve ever used.

Productivity

  • Focus To-Do

Focus To-Do is an iOS app that I use to keep track of my tasks using the Pomodoro technique. It’s simple, fast, and it works.

  • Reflect

Using a daily notes system instead of trying to keep things organized by topics has been super powerful for me. And with Reflect, it’s still easy for me to keep all of that stuff discoverable by topic even though all of my writing happens in the daily note.

  • Focus

Simple tool for blocking distracting websites when I need to just do the work and get some momentum going.
